Fergus, the depossessed King of Ulster

Fergus, the King of Ulster, Cuchulainn's "foster" Uncle (Character Study)

Fergus mac Róich  (mac Róig, mac Rossa) is a troubling character. He was king of Ulster before Conchobar and lost the "throne" in a weird (and rather shamefull) way. He desires Ness, mother of Conchobar,... and desire her he does for he accepts to surrender his kingship to Conchobar, for one year. Conchobar does so well as a king that when the year is over, the Noblemen of Ulster don't allow Fergus to regain his kingship. Fergus remains Conchobar's loyal retainer... for a time...

haha! what a way to lose your throne. Give a man your throne so you can take a swing at his mother, only to be told by the men you once ruled over that the new guy is better than you...that had to hurt somewhere deep.
