Wow, we like te fact thatyou find it sounds scandinavian. It's a compliment for our people. In fact, it's Breton, a celtic language (very close to welsh, originally) that was spoken in western France by our grandparents.
What I wrote is an old saying which means, litterally "if you cannot be a Monsieur in your own country, go see somewhere else and maybe you might", which is the local version of "nobody is a prophet in his own country". I thought it suited well the multilingual character of our little community

And by all means, go on with Gaidhlig, we have Irish readers (some from Ireland, some from the US) who loved that (personnal mails). And here is the place to say so, buddies !
I find it great, personnaly !

And yes, Cathbad really is a key character isn't he ? He is the one who offers cuchulainn the "no turning back" choice. And we were amazed to see him pop in and out, at some point, of almost all the Irish texts relating to Ulster. I just hope this wasn't too pretentious of me choosing that nickname. I just love Cathbad.

Ionly used to see it in old issues of Carn.... wow - sorry my Celtic Kinsman for not recognising it - I always thought of you Armoricans as speaking Welsh with a French accent so to speak - of course I mean no offence when I say that .I am impressed - so are there many Breton speakers left or have the depredations of successive unsympathetic governments eradicated it.
Glad "mo Phios beag na Gaidhlig" went over well, it's a bit rusty.
And I wouldn't worry about being pretentious naming yourself after the Irish Great Sage, considering who I named myself after - Sun Wu Kong, The Great Sage Equal of Heaven .

Breton really is a language of its own. It has been scorned by the French administration since mister-bloody-Napoleon, and almost eradicated in less than a century of interdictions. There was a little affichette you could see everywhere which said "spitting and speaking breton forbidden" in public places. That's how much local idioms were considered in those times.

Our language was eventually saved from extinction. It is now taught in schools. (Diwan).

Now for the IMPORTANT STUFF !
Sun Wu Kong ? Damn us !!! It's our second favourite mythological hero. The monkey king from the Si keou. The one that inspired so many writers,... till San Goku in Dragonball.

Yeah they sound a bit like Comunn Na Gaidhlig up here - CnaG have been campaigning for years along side An Commun Gaidhealtachd (The Highland Society) to legitimise Gaelic in Scotland - thus far we have a couple of Gaelic language medium schools but nothing on the scale of Wales or even Ireland.

Indeed - what is not to love about an invincible, irrepressible stone ape who can turn into anything and is the greatest warrior in the universe?
