The huge Boar under the world has blown his fetid breath towards Cú Chulainn's ghost. Then it hits the ground with its hooves. What ensues is what geologists call a SidheQuake, "a sudden shaking of a sidhe's surface that often causes a lot of damage".

The pattern on the ground around Oghme is reminiscent of the head of the fibuuuula – intentionally so? I’d think so, in such a thoroughly researched and well-thought-through story!

This quake in the fairy hill brings to my mind a little story from our area an arceologist from Hamburg told: there was a local tale about a hill, once been inhabited by a population of fairies. The spirits from under the earth sought refuge elsewhere because their house had been burning down. The exvacation of the hill revealed a wooden grave chamber that had been opened by grave robbers around 500 a.d., but they had dropped their oil lamp and the grave chamber burnt out.
Isn`t the power of folk tales fantastic? 1500 years and still people remembered...

@Roland : This is an excellent example of why folk tales are fascinating. The oral tradition is an amazing phenomenon. Remembrance of a mound burning through 1500 years of time ! Wow.
We have a pretty intriguing example here in French Brittany : the legend of Saint Eflamm and the dragon, which has been recorded at the end of the XIXth century, and is almost, point to point, the same as a Hittite myth recorded somewhere around 500bc (in an article I read from Bernard Sergent if my memory is correct). How can one help but be fascinated.
