Setanta and Bairrfhionn, have to dash for it. In order to get hold of the Irish wolfhound Faolan who's floating too high for them to reach, Setanta tries the fibula on himself. Excellent choice. Trouble is... there's something wrong. A perturbation in the Force, as they would say in a far distant galaxy. Setanta has aged, into Cú Chulainn, sure... but not in the way one would have expected.

This blows my mind. So cool!

I've never been exposed to the Cuchulainn epic before (thank you, American upbringing), but I've heard of the huge impact it has on people's imaginations. You're doing a great job of communicating that enormous scope in visual form!

@Claire : Yeah, the Cuchulainn epic also blew our minds the first time we read it. We both like Homer, Mirlik and I, the Iliad and the Odyssey, but the Tain has something to it, a "barbaric beauty" quality, nowhere else to be found with such vividness. (except Gilgamesh, all the Enkidu related passages, IMO)
As for European upbringing, rest assured that it's no better In France, we only learn of French literature at school. Shakespeare ? Who's that ?? Luckily, school isn't the only source of knowledge and enlightenment (if I dare use this term).

Well, the Song of Roland is a very inspiring epic poem. To be sure. And it has never been adapted to comics or movies in a satisfying manner (to my knowledge). We're embarked for at least 3 years of CucuC and Cuchulainn, but we have a lot of other projects developing in parallel. We might stray from Celtic Myths to some High speed lowtech SciFi when we're done (here, huge intake of air). But Rolland, hmmmm.... Interesting.

@cathbad: there is a film "La Chanson de Roland" with Klaus Kinski as Roland. It is quite liberal with the matter, I`d say. But as there are historical evidence and context, and epic tale paints a completely other picture than that, I suppose it`s very difficult to do justice to the original versification. At least I feel its not so easy imagining the nephew of Charlemagne killing a giant, while the historical Charlemagne is still so present for example in places like his remarkable Palace Church in Aachen.

Hey, I haven't seen the Kinski movie. Being a huge fan of Herzog's movies (especially those with Kinski, but also the more recent ones) I was wondering. Is this a Herzog film ? Kinski as Roland must be something. I'll search IMDB.

@ Cathbad: It's actually a french flick from 1978 done by Frank Cassenti, or so Wikipedia says. I saw it in the Telly a couple of years ago. Never seems to have run in german cinemas, but was distributed on DVD.
